KEENE, N.H. -- New details have been released about what happened Friday when a Keene State College student wounded his roommate, then killed himself in an off-campus apartment, police said.

Police and the Cheshire County Attorney's office today released a lengthy statement that said the shooter, Michael Dyke, of Orford, was drunk when he wounded roommate Jason Lillibridge of Norwich, Conn., and that the shooting came after Lillibridge grabbed a BB rifle away from Dyke.

Police said shortly after midnight last Friday, Dyke sat down to watch TV with two of his roommates, including Lillibridge.

Police said that for some reason, Dyke picked up a loaded BB gun and pointed it at Lillibridge.

According to the statement, Lillibridge grabbed the BB gun away from Dyke and Dyke said he was going to get his real gun.

He returned, aimed a rifle at Lillibridge and shot him, said police.

Lillibridge got out of the apartment and called police while the other roommate tried to calm Dyke down, even taking him outside to see that Lillibridge was not seriously hurt.

Dyke aimed the weapon at his own head, then went into his bedroom and closed the door, said police. As police tried to talk him out, Dyke shot himself, said police.

Lillibridge is recovering.
